Busy Little Bee

Wow it's been a LONG TIME since I have blogged YIKES! I guess my poor blog has taken a back seat. Well let me get you all up to speed as to what has been going on. I've been busy trying to settle into my new position of project coordinator, juggling also the position of receptionist, getting ready for school at Otis, and now resigning from my job. So yes I have been a busy little bee and that's putting it mildly.....hahaha. I am officially down to only a week left of work before I become unemployed and become a full time starving student. Monday I start training the new receptionist who will be shadowing me all week. I guess now my teaching abilities will finally be put to the test. Oh yes, and before I forget I thought I would show you all my cute business cards that I had while at KS and Co.

Not sure if many of you know but I chose to go to Otis. In the end they offered me $29,000.00 a year to attend. Keep in mind the school is $30,000.00 and I will be there 3 years. So I didn't think $1000.00 out of pocket for tuition was such a bad deal especially with their school having one of the best programs on the West Coast. CCA's final bid was $35,100.00 a year for 3 years ( cost of attendance was $ 31,000.00 year). I would have loved to have gone there but their program is not as strong as Otis's. However, I still feel both are great Art schools and I would love to attend CCA one day. Maybe for my Master's they would be an excellent school....hmmmm.

Anyways, I finally went down and took my English placement test. I was a bit worried because I'm not the greatest test taker. Although, the admissions counselour assured me that I would do just fine, especially since I have taken 5 English classes already. I was just worried I might have had to take another English class. At this point I just want to dive into my major since I've completed all my GE's, and I really don't want to have to repeat any GE requirements I've finished.

They gave us 6 lined pieces of papers to write on. I wrote on only 2 1/2. One girl said she ran out of paper and asked for more, that's when they told her to write on the back. I thought to myself you have to be kidding me right ? She's seriously going to maker everyone else look like slackers, gezzzz. Even though I had only written 2 1/2 pages and she wrote more than I, I thought I'm just going to leave it the way it is. If I try to squeeze in more then I'll just end up hurting myself. So, good news I passed the English placement test YAY! That's what happens when you don't force something that's not suppose to be forced. I guess I did so well they wanted to put me in honor classes. That's when I said NO! I just want to see how hard this semester is before I add more to my plate.

So I start school August 31st and I'm carrying 15 units for just this semester. Fun times I can't wait to start. I just can't believe it's almost here since this is the moment I have been waiting for, for almost forever EKKKKKK! So, I'm excited nervous and expecting the worst. So here's to Otis and the next 3 years of my life Hooray. Wish me lots of luck.

"Your Sex is on Fire"

I'm apparently not a huge fan of the Kings of Leon. Okay I know this song is on today's top 10 hits, but I find it absolutely annoying. Any song where you sing about someone's sex being on fire is NEVER a good sign! On top of it being annoying all the guy can sing about is the sex being on fire ugh. Have a little more imagination Kings of Leon.

After listening to it the first time, I was left with the question of ummmmm so, does this guy have an STD or what ? We all know it's never a good thing when things burn in places they shouldn't. We learned this in sex ed class, people. Then he continues to sing consumed with what's to transpire. I'll tell you what's about to transpire, he's going to have to go to the doctors. To get some serious medication to clear up whatever STD he just got that was causing the fire and him to scream out those lyrics...haha.

Below is the chorus lyrics FYI and sorry about my little rant. I really just don't care for this song and can't figure out why it's such a hit.

You, your sex is on fire
And you, your sex is on fire
Consumed with what's to transpire

And you, your sex is on fire
Consumed with what's to transpire

How to Lose a Guy in a Matter of Minutes

Okay ladies want a hint on how to scare away a guy ?? I have some great man repellent. Especially for that one that just doesn't seem to get the hint that your just not that into him ? So the next time you go on a date just hum this song or play it for him from your i-pod. After you've done so presto I can guarantee he'll never call you again. He'll act like he's fallen off the face of the earth. And that ladies is how you lose a guy (okay only if you want him to be lost).

Now if your thinking about keeping him around DON'T play this song. As demonstrated in Natasha's video the guy will run away and never talk to you again. Lastly I have to admit I love Natasha's songs they're very cleaver and witty. If you think this one's funny look up size matters it's also a great one....haha. Keep me posted on the reactions of the guys you use this song on :) I hope that I was able to help out in some way.

Pressing the seams. My favorite part of sewing NOT !! lol

The outside all sewn together. How prettiful....almost there I can feel it. :)

Outside and lining of the bag being sewn together FINALLY !!

Just need to add the details now hooray. That is my favorite part of course.

MUY BONITA

The finished piece....awww. I think I cried when I finally finished haha. I'm going to be serious here for a sec though. I really ended up liking the finished piece more than I thought I would. So anyways this is what I have been up to so if you have been calling which you have, and I haven't picked up. I wasn't trying to ignore you. I was just trying not to get distracted when my creative mind was at the top of it's game :) So anyways let me know what you all think of the finished piece. I better run though I'm anxious and to start another one :) What will my evil genius creative mind come up with next ???

Scones a Mexican Dessert

Well last night I went to institute class like normal. After class there is usually refreshments that Sister and Brother Barlow make for us kids (don't you like how I used the words kids). As everyone was eating and talking, Christian mentioned a great Mexican restaurant by the Newport Beach temple. It happens to be right across from the temple in a shopping center that most people miss because it looks like it's all residential. He explained that it was this little hole in the wall place. Which in my opinion are the best places to eat. Why you may ask ? Well any place where they have grandma and grandpa cooking the food usually equals delicious food for some reason. Well this sparked a series of conversations about the best Mexican food places in Cali. David another guy from institute said Christian didn't know what good Mexican food was. With all this talk of Mexican food it made me remember a time when I went to a Mexican restaurant in Utah. I even shared this story with everyone at institute.

My ex boyfriend kept go on and on about this one Mexican restaurant and how much I had to try their food. He raved about it so much that I finally let him take me there. He wanted to take me there because he wanted me to tell him how great their food was. He also figured since I'm Mexican I would be a n excellent judge for this sort of thing. So we go and I order some entree. As I ate it all I can remember was thinking to myself, "he really thinks this CRAP is good Mexican food" ? I mean Taco Time ( yes a fast food restaurant in Utah that also has awful Mexican food ) has better food than this place, and that place is not even Mexican lol. Seriously I tried Taco Time once and almost threw up. Their chile tasted like vegetable soup yuck. Thank goodness for Taco Bell I mean their not even real Mexican, but in comparison it made Taco Bell look like they were the Gods of Mexican...hahaha.
So back to this one particular restuarant. Their food tasted like it was pure aid (I don't even remember there being cheese) with lettuce thrown on top. There was no bite to it, it was just plain bland or should I say horriable. So I just pretended like it was the best thing. Then my ex boyfriend said wait you haven't tasted anything yet. Their dessert is to die for. So I'm thinking okay so they must have some really tasty flan or bread pudding. So he proceeds to tell me they have the best scones. Soon enough they bring out scones for dessert, with I kid you not butter and honey. At this point I thought to myself what the ? Now I know my family and I are Americanized Mexicans but I don't remember EVER having scones for dessert. So later that night I call my mom and I ask her about the scones dessert. She answers "Shyleen scones are not Mexican they are a English thing you have with tea". So that answered my question as to why my family never had scones after a Mexican meal hahaha.
Well at least everyone at institute got a kick out of this story, and yes I had to dump my boyfriend after he took me to a so called "Mexican restaurant" that served scones. What a funny memory of scones being a Mexican dessert...haha.. I can't even say that with a straight face. So people if you ever go to a restaurant that serves scones as a dessert and they pride themselves on authentic Mexican. The only advice I have to give is RUNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!

P.S. Lastly if you want really good Mexican fast food there is a place called El Taco (NOT DEL TACO) try it. You wont be disappointed promise. There are only 2 locations that I'm aware of one in Downey and one in Anaheim :)
7870 Florence Blvd Downey, CA 90241 ( Try their Quesadilla's you wont be dissappointed. I like their green and red sauce ones the best.)
(For some reason this one's food taste fresher to me, but both are not bad :)

EaStEr WiTh OuR fRiEnDs

Here are the pictures from Easter. As you can all tell we had lots of fun spending time with our close friends the Ruggles. We ate so much that I think I almost popped but the food was tasty. Thanks to Chef David Ruggles. I still think he needs to open his own restaurant but that is a another topic.

I thought it was only appropriate to have a spring time cake. So I had this crazy idea to make a ladybug cake. So here's the masterpiece. With Aleah's help I think we pulled it off quite nicely what do you think ?
James opening his eggs after the hunt to see how much candy he scored.
We really made the kids hunt for the eggs. We hid them so well we lost 2 off them. Even us adults couldn't find the last 2....haha. FYI camaflouge eggs are great for egg hunts :)
Colby Scored!!! So did mom because he had to share with me. Oh the perks of parenting.
Told ya we hid them well.
